Description
Smart Dustbin Project – Description
The Smart Dustbin Project is an innovative and practical electronics project designed to promote cleanliness and hygiene using automation. This smart dustbin automatically opens its lid when it detects a person or object nearby, using an ultrasonic sensor and a microcontroller, ensuring touch-free waste disposal.
This project is ideal for school, college, and university students, and is widely used in science fairs, exhibitions, and STEM learning programs.
Key Features
-
✔️ Automatic lid opening and closing
-
✔️ Touch-free operation for better hygiene
-
✔️ Ultrasonic sensor–based object detection
-
✔️ Microcontroller-controlled system
-
✔️ Energy-efficient and reliable design
Project Components
-
Smart Dustbin Body
-
Ultrasonic Sensor
-
Microcontroller Board (Arduino / compatible)
-
Servo Motor
-
Power Supply / Battery
-
Connecting Wires
Working Principle
The ultrasonic sensor continuously measures the distance in front of the dustbin. When an object or hand comes within a predefined range, the sensor sends a signal to the microcontroller. The microcontroller then activates the servo motor to open the lid automatically. After a few seconds, the lid closes again.
